A bipartisan interventionist consensus has defined U.S. foreign policy for decades – but after a series of failed experiments in nation building and militarized democracy promotion, this consensus is faltering. In its place, a new bipartisan alternative is emerging. At a time of deep partisan polarization, an unlikely alliance has formed between leaders of both parties who seek a humbler and more realistic approach to the world.
